Super Reader

Quite impressive, John J. Miller would appear to know his voodoo. Not to suprising I suppose if you have read the parts of Wild Cards associated with that sort of thing. This was definitely better than 'Talons', which was a tad jumbled and incoherent. Not that Witchblade isn't like that at times, and sometimes deliberately so, but this book is definitely a solid piece of work. For those wondering, even though both Witchblade novels have Yancy Butler from the tv show on the cover, they are definitely more comic style stories. To quote "... and the cold metal appeared instatneously upon her body, encasing her thighs, breasts, and abdomen in its chilly embrace." There is more inner dialogue between Sara and her weapon, as well. Having only read I suppose 60 or so Witchblade issues, there might be some of the tv characters in here, in Jake and Sara, with one just her partner, and the other less of the flighty chick, but a while since I have read those. Anyway, an entertaining supernatural cop story. I have never read about anyone being arrested for 'corpse abuse', either. A nice touch, that one, plus throwing in a few Lovecraft stories as song titles for the Goth Rock bad was funny, too.

This book has a photo of Yancy Butter on the front and back cover. The contents of the book has the feel of the comic book world. If you never saw the show or read the comics you would still enjoy the book. It works well has a stand alone piece. If you like Michael Moorcock "Hawkmoon" or Chicks in Chainmail edited by Ester Friesner then you will like this book finding it a easy, interesting, entertaining read.Mr. Miller does not choose to use the cast of characters many of us are familiar with. Instead he takes Sara Pezzini out of her normal turf, off her regular beat, pairing her with some unlikely allies-the Parthenon of voodoo gods and goddess, an adherent of voodoun, a Catholic Priest, the leader singer of a Goth band and his brother. Miller does an excellent job telling his story, portraying the character, setting the scene and hooking you into the story. The book is fast pace, creative, introspective, touch on Pezzini relation with the blade and leaves no loose ends. Mr. Miller if you are asked to write another story for the series, please do. If Warner Brothes call answer.
