Truthwitch was fast, and funny, and daring, and lovely. Windwitch is so, so much more.

Susan Dennard once again stole my heart away with her captivating Witchland’s Series. Lately, I’ve been allowing myself to read the book, and then take a break to digest all of my emotions before I review. Often times, after coming down from a book high, I’m still too caught up in the moment. Well I can tell you it’s been several days and I’m still caught up in the moment. After carrying the book around for nearly a month and a half, I sat down to read after being sent home sick from work. While I admit after a certain point I should have put it down to sleep, and help fight off my flu, I just couldn’t. The characters, the imagery, the imagination, it all sweeps you up in an enchanting tale that slowly grows darker. Truthwitch was fast, and funny, and daring, and lovely. Windwitch is so, so much more. Maybe it’s because at this point we know who the characters are, we understand their motives and the heartbreak they’ve all endured. However after finishing the book I can’t help but to think that we only knew the surface of our lovely cast. The characters seemingly grew more into themselves. Safi is just as reckless, Iseult is just as caring, and yet I feel as if we know more about about why they are this way. In addition to the obvious growth of our favorites, those characters and tales that only had one side? Where we as readers may have been a little more biased on what we believed? Those beliefs were shattered. Maybe it’s not only the characters who grew in this story, but the readers as well. After all taking a character’s assumptions as truth, no matter how much we trust them, can be dangerous. Not only did we become entangled in our characters lives, but in the political maneuverings of the Witchlands. New cultures appeared, and made the intricately woven background grows more diverse. The magic we learned about and loved (well I loved) has a much darker side that is fraying the edges of the truths we learned. The history of the lands is more storied than had previously been let on. I don’t think it could be more obvious that I loved this book. With fresh eyes after reading Windwitch I realized that Truthwitch was good, but it was only the first step to so much more of the story. And more we undoubtedly received. I can only believe that Dennard has set us up for the most perfect hook, line, and sinker as she continues the series. I can barely wait to read Sightwitch, and to see how much more she has envisioned. So here I am eagerly awaiting the next installment, my only question is will you be joining me?
