Wind, Breath, Spirit: A Trilogy

There is one word at the center of Scripture that refuses to sit still. In Hebrew it is ruach. In Greek it is pneuma. We translate it three ways - wind, breath, spirit - because no single English word can hold everything it is doing. The same word that describes a storm tearing across a mountain also describes the air moving in and out of your lungs right now, and also describes the presence of God Himself. Wind, Breath, Spirit follows that one word through the whole of the Bible, in three volumes: Wind - the breath of God moving across history, out where the world can see it. Breath - the same wind brought indoors, into one human body, the air you are breathing as you read. Spirit - the wind poured out on a people, what God does when He fills more than one body at a time. Written for the person sitting in the pew, this trilogy opens the verse, lets creation testify underneath it, and asks what the Word means for the wind blowing through your house this season.
