A great beginner's course in karma and choices

I originally bought and read this book in the mid-1990s, after the first printing. It opened up my mind so much that I have to say it changed my life. I immediately lent it to a friend who was having similar difficulties in her life, and I have not seen the book since. I bought another copy now that the new edition is out, and in the seven or eight years it has been since the first reading I have studied similar ideas extensively; the book is still good but not as deep as I originally thought it was.If you are searching for answers beyond those given by every well-meaning parishoner for the last 200 years, this is definitely the book I would say to start with. If you are curious about western ideas of karma but are tired of cracker-jack box explanations, this is a great next read. If you have a good working knowledge of metaphysical-type stuff published in the last 5 years or so, this book will not seem so life-altering, but still well-stated.

Growing towards the light

This book is NOT for everyone. That is not to say that it shouldn't be. Simply put, you have to be at a point in your life where spirtually you are ready to grow, to give up the trappings of society and the idea that anyone or anything you can buy will ever truly make you happy. If you are at this stage everything in this book will be like a drink of water to a man dying of thirst. If you are not at this point in your life, this book will seem to be a confused, new-aged, new-wave unpractical way of thinking. Robin Norwood is a brilliant writer and she has achieved so much in her life. It is a pleasure to read anything she's written.

Wonderful book to help understand the mysteries of life

I have read this book three times since 1995, when it was given to me by a friend after my son had passed away. And it is now my favorite book to give to those who are facing critical moments in their lives and who believe their "luck" has ran out. It has also enriched their spirits and helped them answer many questions regarding the mysteries of life. This is a MUST book for all who want to grow spiritually.

A book to re-read and treasure

I was astounded to read that this unique book is out of print. Norwood, author of "Women Who Love Too Much," takes a radically different turn here. She recounts her seven-year period of solitude, study and contemplation, and the result is a spiritual gift to readers. She touches on any number of personal crises that almost anyone can identify with and introduces some very thought-provoking theories of her own. A small book, densely packed with wisdom and sane perspective. I bought several copies to give to friends, but I'll never part with my own. This book, as the author herself advises, should be re-read over and over: each time, you gain a new perspective that make the book richer and richer. Try to find this book--it's worth the effort.

To believe or not to believe; that is the question!

This is a compelling book for one who has shied away from psychic phenomena throughout life. My grandfather was a medium. Using his abilities strictly as "entertainment" for small groups, he began experiencing frightening episodes after each time he performed his craft. Eventually he abandoned the practice altogether. Convinced it was "Satan's" work, he vowed not to delve further into such things and forbad his children to do so. Norwood, however, introduces a whole new aspect of psychic ability and reincarnation possibilities that intrigues (yet, because of my background, repulses) me. She matter of factly presents examples and personal insights that seem logical but also raises some unanswered questions re: God, the soul, the spirit and the differences between them. Her book, however, is one of the easiest to understand explanations of why we experience certain problems in life I've read--yet how can we know for certain? But in fairness, how can we know that any explanation of the purpose of life, including basic Christianity, is the real answer? I applaud Robin Norwood's efforts to provide answers to life's toughest questions and would recommend it to those who have open minds.
