Wonderful illustrations and a touching story

This is the story of Simon and his bear, Snowtop. Snowtop is sticky and smells of all the things that grown-ups hate, but Simon loves him. When Simon's Gran comes to visit she looks at Snowtop, and then whispers to Simon's mother. Then Simon's Gran rushes him out of the house for a day at the toy store, the fair, and to have ice-cream. When Simon arrives home he looks for Snowtop, but instead finds a white bear, that smells of soap, and is a 'Strange Bear'. When Simon goes to bed he finds Strange Bear on his pillow. He throws him on the floor. In the middle of the night Simon wakes up, and taking Strange Bear he goes to look for Snowtop. He takes Strange Bear to all the messy, sticky places he and Snowtop play, but he doesn't find him. Simon and Strange Bear go back to bed, and fall asleep. When Simon wakes up he finds that he is cuddling Snowtop, and that Strange Bear has gone. My son was given this book for his second birthday. He adores the story, and loves the brightly colored illustrations. Everytime we read it, which is very frequently, he finds something new to spot. I will be looking for more books by this author and illustrator. This book will be a favorite for many years.
