For more than four decades, I have sought out adventure trips to out-of-the-way places, first on my own, then with my wife, and then with our children. Early on I began keeping trip diaries so I could remember what I had seen and done. Later, as the Internet grew, I sent messages home as and when I found an Internet café. This book collects all of these tales together. All the chapters have been fleshed out with memories refreshed by the thousands of photographs I've taken over the years, all comprehensively scanned and stored on archival CDs and DVDs. The book recounts my adventures travelling the world by bicycle, elephant, camel, tuk-tuk, commuter train, steam train, dugout canoe, ferry, ship, foot, motorbike, taxi, bus and felucca, and the weird and wonderful foods I've eaten. I hope my tales of far-fetched derring-do in unlikely places by unusual modes of transport entertain you and perhaps inspire you to explore some of these places yourself.
