This is a terrific read. The first story shows how our Universities are not staffed with perfectly wonderful professors and sets a backdrop for the episodes that follow. The stories are sensative and a joy to read.

This book was one of the most enjoyable books I have read in a long time. Lalita Noronha has blended both of her life styles to create this excellent book. I will enjoy reading Where Monsoons Cry again and again. Some of the stories could be made into mimi novels.
Excellent writing, fascinating stories

What kept me reading this book is the impossible situations the characters were in and seeing them maintain their dignity and make the absolute best out of the situation. It's been months since I read the book but the characters remain with me like family members who have written letters: the unwanted "girl-child" who finds a lonely man with money to take care of so she can send the money back to support her family; the Indian woman with a scholarship for only 2 semesters of course work, trying to pass physics without calculus, who is offered tutoring by a professor who puts his hand on her thigh; the young man who satisfies his mother's demand to return to India and consider a traditional marriage; the barren woman who hopes to care for her sister's child. A very enjoyable and satisfying read!

This collection of short stories is excellent. Noronha captures the hardships and triumphs of living a hybrid lifestyle - South Asian and American. Noronha's style makes it capable for any reader to relate to the characters. Her stories truly made me laugh and cry...sometimes within the same story ("The Sari" comes to mind). I absolutley adored the whole collection. For someone who is not knowledgeable about South Asian culture, I found that I was able to relate to the characters in these stories very easily. They definitely have a wordly appeal! The use of the first person point of view, which is less common than the third person, is magnificent. I don't know how else to put it!
