The hilarious side of Menopause-if one exists?

Reading Jan King?s, When You?re Hot You?re Hot How I Laughed My Way Through Menopause, is a little like watching some of the well- known female comedians such as Margaret Cho, Rosanne, Bette Midler, Carol Leifer, Bonnie Hammer, Dawn French or Ellen Degeneres parade on stage and perform their various shticks.Only this time the shtick is about menopause performed by King, who asserts, ?I?m officially out of the egg business.? King is a former high school biology teacher turned author who tackles the subject matter of menopause with a great deal of wit and humor. The facts are all there, however it is the way they are presented that makes them memorable, and very often hilarious.According to King the term menopause is derived from the Latin- Meno=?man? and Pause-?terminate.? In other words it all boils down to the literal translation, ?you are the weakest link-good-bye!? King goes onto explain that as the woman can no longer become pregnant, men now become useless. As a result, the woman?s sexual interest in men comes to a ?screeching halt.? There are two remaining functions for these men, lawn maintenance and auto repair.King definitely has seen the light when it comes to menopause related topics, and without holding anything back, she tells it like it is while at the same time keeping her readers in stitches. King has authored 23 humor books for women and six have even been translated into 8 languages. I guess there is something to be said about women?s humor that seems to be universal. The topics dealt with in the book run the gamut from the malfunctioning of women?s thermostats to various kinds of cosmetic surgeries, different kinds of female medical examinations, sexual satisfaction (King describes hers after menopause-my libido ended up in limbo), relationships with men, even male menopause, if there is such an animal.King is breast cancer survivor, and she also includes many thoughtful insights sprinkled with humor pertaining to this dreadful disease. Her assertion at the end of the book that nobody appreciates his or her life more than a cancer survivor is probably the impetus that makes King?s writing so verbally comical that is constantly tickling our funny bones. The cumulative effect of the book is optimistic or at least somewhat calming and balanced, and will even provide some answers to such questions as- is there life during and after menopause? Love women who laugh at themselves

This is hilarious. Women laughing at ourselves --- creates a sense of comraderie that makes this stage almost enjoyable. The author is warm, witty and honest! Boy could I relate to those anecdotes.

One of The Best Books I have Ever Read

Once I started reading, "When You're Hot,You're Hot",I could not put the book down. I read it in one sitting. The book contained just about every element concerning what a woman goes through when she is undergoing menopause.Men should read this book to understand what there menopausal wives are experiencing.Men should purchase this book for their wives and for themselves. The book educated me, made me laugh hysterically, and made me cry. It took alot of courage for the author to share with the reader her own personal experience concerning her illness. A must read.

When You're Hot You're Hot:How I Laughed My Way Through ....

This is Jan's best book ever! What a relief to know that we women of a certain age are not alone! Jan shows us how to look on the "lighter" side of menopause. Yes , there is a lighter side to this rite of passage which, at the very least, makes for humorous party talk in mixed company. Who's worried about delicate conversation anymore anyway?Jan's humor is right on and has been culled from years of talking and commiserating with her network of gal pals. This is not an anti-male book in any sense of the word and allows men in on the joke, too. From power surges to mood swings, Jan gives you the medical facts, humorous anecdotes and then ties each chapter up with really hilarious quizzes. Her little "but seriously..."paragraphs put aside the belly laughs and offer practical advice on medical treatments, both traditional and alternative, and just plain good coping advice based on Jan's own experience...and she's had a wealth of experience from menopause, cosmetic surgery and the dreaded diagnosis of breast cancer. The most surprising aspect of her book is the last chapter which is truly touching and inspiring at the same time. It is Jan's journey through the trauma of breast cancer which is juxtaposed with her best friend, Linda's, diagnosis of ovarian cancer at the same time. No one can ever understand the emotional roller coaster of anxiety, fear and ultimately hope unless you've been there yourself but Jan does a credible job of putting you in her shoes. You will cry with her and ultimately rejoice at her positive outcome where she emerges happier and healthier than ever. This book might be found in the humor section of bookstores but offers women so much more. Jan is evolving into a mainstream author and everyone's best friend when it comes to offering advice on coping with the biggest issues in a woman's life.

Your hot

I have followed Jan's writings and find When you're hot right up there with hormones from hell. Being a male senior citizen it helps me understanding the flashes my wife goes through and enables me to put a little laughter into mine and her life.keep up the good work jan king.
