FROM THE BACK OF THE BOOK: When Brooke had impetuously married Travis McCloud, she say only that he'd make a wonderful husband and devoted father. But when his career as a journalist took off, he became a stranger to her, and they reluctantly parted ways. [Actually she served him with divorce papers when he was out of the country.] But now Travis was back in her life, and something in his eyes told Brooke that his return had nothing to do with his latest story. [Took her a while to figure that one out] He seemed determined to get Brooke back and reunite their divided family. But even though she loved this demanding, desirable man, could she trust him? [She, herself had many issues.] Travis had to learn to disassociate his emotions from the devastation he saw in the areas he covered for the News. He felt a helplessness for the hopelessness that he saw in the people in the war torn countries he covered. He was only practicing self-preservation. But it did affect his marriage. Brooke had felt his withdrawal and didn't know how to cope with it. He feels lost without Brooke but is afraid to admit it. She is now, presently, helping her best friend and doctor, Maggie Matthews with the victims of a devastating storm on the Oregon coast. Brooke, Maggie and Glen Isley made up part of a volunteer team to help victims until the rescue teams could get into the damaged areas. Travis miraculously stepped in to help Brooke rescue a kitten of a newly married couple who had been trapped in a disintergrating motel. Then they were thrown together on another rescue of an older woman and child only to get stuck at night in another storm behind a fallen giant of a tree. Oh yes, the resolution of their differences makes for a wonderful story. Their hesitations in trusting each other with their emotions extends the plot nicely. Trouble is these two still love each other. Follow their hesitant reaching out to each other for a very good read. Definitely Recommended -m --- don't forget the follow-up story of Maggie in Jake's Mountain
