The main characters of this story are Arera and Mukund, who are supported by many other cardinal characters. This story is based on casteism and mainly focuses on the Dalit community, specifically manual scavengers, in India. It not only includes challenges related to casteism for a lower community but also emphasizes the internal battle between acceptance and the external perception, as well as the excessive importance of surnames in society.

The beginning of the story finds its plot at school, where Arera and Mukund meet for the first time.
