18 month olds love this book

As one reviewer mentioned, this may not be the best book for teaching kids the meaning of round. But it is nonetheless a wonderful, beautiful book which my twin 18 month olds loved from the first time I read it. I read them the book at least five times a day for weeks. The pictures are pretty. The pages are sturdier than a normal hardcover book, so it was a good first non-board book for the kids. Really, really nice book. It's on the top of my list to buy as a gift.

Blueberries, Marbles and Moons

Ah, blueberries, marbles, moons, balloons and more. As we share a bowl of blueberries with a child we might say, "yum, such sweet, round, fresh blueberries." The author writes this book as we would talk to a child just learning the world ... his or her shapes and colors, etc. We certainly would not say "Such sphere shaped blueberries." And this is why the author was not only careful in what she wrote, but accurate and true. A lovely concept book for children learning what the shape of round looks like. We also have WHAT IS SQUARE? at our house and I've gone back to look; every item is indeed a square. The photo of the patch on the knee may lean toward having two sides a tad longer than the other two, but the 'text' reads 'patch on your knee.'...so this is nonsense to say the author was not careful with text. A lovely, colorful book in a series. WHAT IS A TRIANGLE? is our favorite. I just saw these listed in a magazine article for the best books to buy for toddlers learning shapes and even colors.

a "round" of applause

With a beat that's infectious and photographs that are vivid and juicy, the concept of what is "round" will come alive in the hands of toddlers. The text begs to be read aloud and the invitation at the end encourages young explorers to look closely at their surroundings for other round objects, including spheres, which last time I checked, were round. Like Dotlich's other titles, this is a wonderful choice for a family bookshelf.

Fun, fun, fun!

A great concept book that is refreshingly original and highly imaginative. What is round? Garbanzo beans? A lid on a jelly jar? Your little one will be delighted at all of the intriguing items --and then off to find their own things that are round!
