Delightful romantic comedy!

If you enjoy romantic comedies. You will LOVE this book. What an Earl Wants is a feel good book. That is simply delightful. If you long to be swept into the lives of two enchanting people, I highly recommend What an Earl Wants. While browsing in the bookstore, I decided to give it a chance. If you don't want to miss out, you should too. This book had everything you need to create a good romance: a dashing hero, a beautiful heroine, a person who always seems to interfere with the hero and heroine, and, most of all...PASSION! The book does not rely heavily on the sensual scenes. The story is so good that these scenes just add spice to an already great book. The relationship between the leads is endearing. The secondary characters are enjoyable as well. The reader will feel the despair, the heartbreak, passion and the joy of Ben and Jo Quincy in this very excellent character driven romance. I found the characters to be multi-dimensional.Both characters felt "real" and made me believe they were in love with one another deeply. I'm looking forward to reading more books from Shirley Karr. I must say this through Earl of Sinclair (Ben) is really a gentleman not a rogue. I love how he falls in love with Jo and then romances the heck out of her. Unlike most romance novels, the "hero's" Ben is not perfect, he's not a rake, nor is he nasty, mean, or an arrogant idiot! ... I will let you discover just what kind of man Ben is BUT he's truly lovely to read about.

Just who wears the pants in the relationship?

Well, if the relationship is between the Earl of Sinclair and Jo Quincy...you both do! Her family is in dire financial straights, so Jo dons male garb and gets a job as a secretary to the Earl. A daring, risky plan in regency England. The two find they have more than missing money between them. But can an Earl marry a woman who's spent her adult life playing a man? A wonderful story filled with witty dilogue and an engaging plot. Karr's debut is fantastic!

Superb!

This is a wonderful romance! Clever, funny, and filled with endearing characters and passages. I hated to see the story end! I read voraciously within this genre on a regular basis, and this is one of the best I've read in the last two years! I hope others discover this book soon! What a treat!

Very Good! FUNNY!!

Love this book- Its FUNNY a page turner. I was up all night reading this, cannot put it down. Its a happily ever after book! Based in London-1816, The Earl of Sinclair- Benjamin he's looking for a new secretary b/c all of his servants are all getting married to one another.. Well here comes J. Quincy (who is actually Josephine our heorine) Well he did not know when he hired her as his secretary that she is a female- but he finds out all right- this is where all the adventure starts and becomes a pager turner. You have gotta to get this book and read it!

A charming Regency

In 1816 London, the Earl of Sinclair, Benjamin hires Joe Quincy as his secretary because he likes the cheeky response the applicant provides back to his inquiries although he has some doubts as the lad does not shave. Quickly, Joe gets the household staff and even Benjamin's mother warped around his thin finger and soon uncovers that his predecessor Johnson embezzled quite a bit of money from the Earl. Benjamin realizes something is not quite right with Joe; a revelation hits Benjamin that Joe is Josephine. As she hires homeless servants who seem to get married rather quickly, he earns the reputation as the "matchmaking Earl". When Jo and Benjamin fall in love, she rejects him because she fears the scandal will hurt her beloved and his kind mother. Benjamin knows he must persuade her otherwise. Though women masquerading as males have been done quite frequency amongst the Regency romance sub-genre, nonetheless this is a fabulous tale due "Mr. Quincy". Benjamin is a typical hero while the support cast augments the plot by providing insight into the lead couple. The "chase" for Johnson provides a bit of a mystery and some suspense, but the novel is owned by the wonderful Jo. Fans will enjoy her antics as a young man and as a desirable woman. Readers will look forward to more works if this is any indication of how talented Shirley Karr is. Harriet Klausner
