Emotions are scary even for adults, So imagine how scary emotions are for children especially when they don't know how to label, identify or regulate them. It is a learning process and this is the purpose of this book to show children all emotions are okay to feel and talk about.
Wellbeing warriors has been created in the style of a short picture poetry book to explain different emotions with the visual of having different wellbeing warriors in our minds, like sad Steve, overwhelmed Oliver, anxious Annie, furious frank and excited Emma, who all take it in turns to be in control of our minds.
After the poem is a page where the children get to meet these characters including how they may feel and how they may behave making it inclusive for example overwhelmed Oliver likes to wear ear defenders and excited Emma likes to stim through repeated body movements.
soon after is a page for children to be able to point to the wellbeing warriors that is controlling their mind right now, this page is good for interaction and conversation with an adult and a child about their emotions they are feeling in that present moment.
As a child myself I wasn't taught how to properly regulate my emotions and as a result find it hard to in adulthood but now I'm learning and I want to help children learn too and that's why wellbeing warriors was created.
