This is an excellent primer on Poland for the young student to read and explore!

There are many different immigrant populations here in the United States. Perhaps you are of Polish descent, but how much do you know about Poland and do you know where it is? In this book you can see a satellite image and an illustrated map showing you where it is. The "Republic of Poland" or Poland for short, is in Europe. It is surrounded by several countries and is also bordered by the Baltic Sea. "The name Poland means `land of fields.'" Most of Poland's terrain is flat, but there are some very high mountains. There are many different types of animals in Poland. Many like the marmot and chamois live in forests consisting of many trees we have here in the states such as maple, spruce and oak trees. You will read a brief history of its wars and what life is like in free Poland today. You will also read about its traditions, life in the cities and country, the kinds of homes people live in, the schools, the Polish language and its dialects, what they do for work, what kinds of food they eat, what they do in their leisure time and what holidays they celebrate. Have you ever eaten a pierogie? If you have, you have eaten a favorite Polish food! This is an excellent primer on Poland for the young student to read and explore. The coverage of the country is brief, but will give the student a starting point for a school report. The book has two maps, informative sidebars and numerous full color photographs. In the back of the book there are some "Fast Facts About Poland," one page of common translated words, a glossary, an index and additional recommended books and a link to the Child's World web page where additional links on Poland can be found. Can you name one of Poland's neighbors? If not, you'd better study up!
