Wapallopen Luzerne County: A forgotten Pennsylvania Dutch enclave

Wapwallopen is a little village right along the serpentine Susquehanna River in the southwestern corner of Luzerne County, a few miles east of the Columbia County border. It is an enclave of Pennsylvania German ethnicity that sits outside of the more celebrated and well known culturally "Dutch" areas of Southeastern Pennsylvania. Presented here is a brief but relatively complete account of the area's history with an especial focus on this historical "Old River Church". Local urban legends documented within add spice and local color to this small rural village.
