Some things can only be reached by waiting.
Thistle has been asleep under her leaves since October, and Ember has been saving up his news
the whole winter - a fallen tree, a sky that came apart in December, a mouse who got himself
lost and came home famous. By the end of February he has told it to nobody at all, and
February is a very long month.
Then comes a warm morning that smells like spring, and a small dark nose at the edge of the
leaves, and Ember - certain the waiting is over - opens the nest wider to let her out.
That night the cold comes back.
And Eli shows him the ridge at sunset, and the crooked pine the sun is walking toward, and how
long it will take to get there.
He could not make the morning come. He could only be there when it did.
Wait for Spring, Little Fox is the fifth Eli & Ember story - a warm, funny, read-aloud chapter
book for children ages 6 to 9, illustrated in full color throughout, and closing on a single
