Convinced that a country's development is only possible with a critical mass of technicians and skilled workers, Niger has been undertaking a reform of the technical education and vocational training subsector since 2011, aimed at revitalizing it through the creation of a greater number of training institutions, both public and private. Whereas until 2010 there were no more than about ten public technical education and vocational training institutions, there are now more than three hundred, ranging from Vocational Training Centers (CFM) to Technical Education Colleges (CET), Technical and Vocational Training Centers (CFPT), Vocational High Schools, Technical High Schools, and University Institutes of Technology (IUT). This study sheds light on this ambitious reform through which Niger aims to train technical managers and skilled personnel to meet the needs of its economy.
