Violence Against Women in News Discourse

Violence against women, which has a discriminatory perspective against women in its origin, continues today due to historical, social and economic reasons. Violence, which is ignored and normalized in a very large part of the world, is the result of a social structure that recreates inequality against women in male-female relations. One of the areas where gender inequality, which feeds violence against women, is the most common is the media. The representations of men and women in the media, which are largely under the influence of sexist social stereotypes, are repeated in various media contents. The leading media content in which these representations are reproduced is the news. With this study, which aims to reveal the general trends in the discourse of violence against women through the events selected as an example, a general picture of the news discourse of the media has been tried to be revealed. The analysis of how news actors are represented in the news of violence against women will be useful in revealing the controversial relationship between the media and violence.
