A Moral Tale

A Regency Romance with a difference, Vice Avenged is a book I have owned for over 30 years and probably reread it at least once a year. A bored and cynical nobleman comes face to face with the power of all enduring love. On a bet this young man deflowers a young woman of good family whom he has known for years while in disguise. The book describes the effect this event has upon both the girl, her family, and the young men involved in the bet. Lolah Burford does an amazing job of sticking (mostly) to period language and mores while telling a tale with lessons which are timeless. If you appreciate a well turned phrase, an unusual approach to literature and the Regency period, this should be on your must read list. Dedicated to Georgette Heyer, Burford is the one writer who actually measures up to her muse.
