I was pleasantly surprised by this book. At only 350 pages, you would expect it to be light reading for novices, but it includes details about shopping for sound, video, and so on that really explains the technology behind the items and why one part costs more than another. Finally I understand video acceleration and APIs after reading this book for example. It's as much about choosing the right components as it is about installing them.
