This book is wonderful. I have been a Registered Nurse for 20 years, starting my career in 1988. I've practised oncology and Dr. Bolin (who I have had the priviledge to work with) gives a deeper meaning to what people are going through who are faced with the battle of Cancer. I couldn't put the book down once I started. I enjoyed how the characters changed and grew throughout the book. I have witnessed the changes Dr. Bolin describes in society and medicine over my career. I have to say that the nurse he describes in 1972, Sharon, is my hero. Her straightforwardness and honesty--even if it may get a Dr. upset with her--are what patient's need and desire. I strongly recommned this book.
