Factual but Fun

A glance at author Joyce Lohse's extensive and primary-source-rich bibliography for Unsinkable: The Molly Brown Story, proves that she takes her research no less seriously simply becasue the book targets young readers. Separating the facts from the fiction has long been a challenge for Margaret Tobin "Molly" Brown biographers. To her great credit, Lohse manages to debunk the more outrageous Brown legends without sacrificing any of the fun and inspiration that make this Colorado lady's life story so compelling. Despite all that has been writ4n about Mrs. Brown previously, the diligent Lohse has mined some narrative nuggets never before uncovered. This book is a must-read for Western women's history buffs of all ages.

Molly Brown's Story -- Told for Kids -- Is a Delight

Growing up in Denver, I heard of Molly (actually Maggie) Brown early on. I've always loved the story of this gutsy lady. Her feats as a surviving passenger from the sinking Titanic made her famous to the rest of the world -- and Tammy Grimes played her to the hilt -- but "the beautiful people of Denver" have always known Molly. Now Joyce Lohse nicely recreates her for the younger set. Kudos Joyce! GOOD READ!!! GOOD JOB!!! Sarah Byrn Rickman, author of the newly released Nancy Love and the WASP Ferry Pilots of World War II (University of North Texas Press).
