While exploring archival material several years ago, the author discovered a hidden chapter in Ramsey's story. Further research revealed that much of the accepted history had misunderstood the man behind the legend.

Burdened by a racist nickname, rumored to be a "gypsy," and forced to play banned Sunday football, Ramsey did not turn professional until the age of 26. His devotion to the game was all-consuming. Obsessed with learning and improving, he thought about football constantly and may have concealed aspects of what would today be recognized as neurodiversity.
