I am amazed how two people can come together and write a book with so many good points and with so much heart put into it. I highly recommend this book to anyone who participates in any sort of travel, but especially for those who do missions in a foreign country.
Just What I Needed...

Having just returned from living in Nigeria, West Africa for 2 months this book has been the only remedy to help me process all that I experienced. I started the book while on my 30 hour flight from Nigeria back to the US and I was surprised to find how many stories, emotions, and lessons learned I had in common with the authors. The raw honesty of the book is refreshing. And, it's clear from the questions asked at the end of every chapter that the author's have a lot of experience in processing time overseas. I would recommend this book for EVERYONE returning from the mission field. It's short, so readable, and will help you digest all you consumed during your time overseas!
on the road back home again

There were two things I liked about this book before opening it up. The cover is really cool, so even if the book was not going to be very good at least it could be bookshelf art. Thankfully that did not turn out to be the case. It's short. After getting inside there are three things that stand out to me. First, the readability. Very few of us have the time to decipher some epic tome after returning home from being overseas. Almost everyone does want to take the time to think about their experiences. This book got to the point and had me reflecting on my own involvement in ministry and missions without having to pay a stiff time tax. My second observation is that the book was written with a lot of honesty. There are several scenes of embarrassment the authors detail about themselves that make you laugh and at the same time identify with. From throwing papers in the bosses' office to demanding free airline tickets this book has a healthy dose of reality. Let's face it, the mission field isn't all sunshine and jellybeans. It's refreshing to encounter a book that is not full of false glamor. Finally, I found Unearth to be helpful. It sketches out in 6 chapters the way the truth so often resides in tension and is surrounded by our own struggles. It made me think of my own expectations, disappointments and direction forward in God. "Anything with a soul will capture your attention if you look deep enough." - That's my favorite line from the book. For 100 pages this is a quick and helpful read that almost any Christian can benefit from.
