New James Bond - with edges

Cushner's hero is mature, edgy, cleared and adventurous. Will need to trade in my Rollex for a Latin grammar book.

Under Nuclear Attack

As a Washington lawyer, I found that its descriptions of places, the tensions between the CIA and its top operatives and the depiction of the tools that could be employed to thwart a nuclear attack on the US are all very realistic, as are the consequences of failure. I started it right after dinner and had to finish it before I fell asleep. A marvelous tale. I just hope the system functions as well as he writes.
Could not put it down

Overall a terrific storyline with several "in your face" characters and lots of great locations- could not help visualize the action as it might appear on film. I grew up in Boston and the scenes painted by Cushner were "spot on", especially the Community Boating Club. The last 2/3 of the book fly after some detailed character building in the first 1/3, not that some build-up action is taking place as you get into the plot. I spend most of my reading time on technical abstracts and articles. Under Nuclear Attack was a pleasant interlude that I found hard to put down, so I didn't. Completed the read in two sittings. Looking forward to more Josh Parker!
