Beautifully written

I am reading this book as part of my independent study of Spanish. It's the story of a young witch from the 15th century who is transported into the 20th century as punishment for falling in love with a mortal. Etelvina finds work as a "mother's helper" in a family with three children. When the children ask for a story, she tells them a tale in installments based on what happened to her. Guiraldes shows the challenges Etelvina faces as she deals with the very different world she confronts in the 20th century while struggling to keep her identity secret and cope with the loss of her sweetheart. I just picked the book up by chance in a foreign language bookstore for a bit of practice and was surprised to find it so engaging. (Although I am going through it slowly because I have to look up a lot of words.) I will definitely look for other books by Guiraldes.
