The story follows Elara, a young woman who survives the apocalypse only to discover she's become one of the Un-Chosen, a new kind of being with superhuman strength and speed. She finds a sanctuary with a group led by Julian, who teaches her to control her new abilities.

Their fragile peace is shattered by two conflicts: a moral dilemma over whether to help human survivors and the arrival of a ruthless human military leader, General Thorne.
