Five Questions for Jesse Grant

Jesse Grant, who are you? How do you know so much about me, my deepest fantasies, my buried wishes? What is your secret? Do you come into my room at night while I lie deep asleep, reading my dreams with some sort of literary tickertape that measures not what I aspire to, but the depth of the mud to which I hope to sink? I can't explain otherwise how you came to edit ULTIMATE GAY EROTICA 2005 and gotten it all so right. OK, there are one or two little numbers I could have done without, and one or two that wound up offending my dignity, spoiling my image of myself. And one or two which I stopped reading with one hand, because with one hand you can't flip through the pages quick enough to finish off the particular piece of tripe one wishes to skip. But outside of that, you had the genius to include not one, but two stories, but my favorite Thom Wolf, the British author of THE CHAIN and WORDS MADE FLESH, not only the top porn writer of the present era but one of the best writers I know period. "All I can do is sit back in awe of myself," you write in way of introduction, and for once such a boast is fully justified, since "The Ride In" by Thom Wolf is alone worth the price of admission, and Wolf's other story here, "Who Do You Love?"-- its flip title drawn from Dannii Minogue's epic 2001 single "Who Do You Love Now?" (featuring Riva) is just as provocative. What especially endeared me to this story was the way its hero, the anonymous pleasure seeker, on a pleasure trip to the Durham area in England, first notices Ben, the more aggressive of two beefy top boyfriends, as Ben sits in a cafe "reading a collection of erotic stories by Kevin Killian." There's something about reading one's own name in a porn story that speaks to many factors in the broader social network of reading. Do we read to discover something new about ourselves? The world outside? Or in the case of ULTIMATE, to turn on and rub out? I still haven't made up my mind about these issues and Jesse Grant, that's why I want you to call me, I need your input, just the way that Ben and Will need to make ice cubes out of sperm in their lovely Durham area freezer, so that they can upload them into the recti of visiting pig boys. "I moaned and tightened my muscle, keeping the load secure inside. The heat of my core melted the ice quickly. `Can you handle another?' he challenged. I gasped again as the second cube was inserted.
