This book had a nice mix of photographs and artwork, a combination that made the book very striking

Tyrannosaurus Rex, or T. rex for short, is undoubtedly most kids favorite dinosaur. The name means "tyrant lizard king." This gigantic dinosaur roamed the earth millions of years ago. He was a massive carnivore that weighed in "as much as four cars" and had a head "the size of a refrigerator" if you can imagine that. Everything about T. rex was massive save its small arms which sported only two fingers. It had a mouthful of more than fifty teeth and if any were lost . . . well, he just grew some more! It is not known if this dinosaur was actually a predator or a scavenger who chomped down on dead creatures. In either case "T. Rex needed lots of food." During the day he would hunt for food and water, "rested and took naps." The reason we know as much as we do about this dinosaur is because scientists have digs and find fossils. One skeleton, however, was not found by scientists but by Sue Hendrickson. The skeleton is now in a museum and is named "Sue" after her. In this book you will also find out where T. Rex bones have been located, who finds the bones, and what they do when they find them. This book had a nice mix of photographs and artwork, a combination that made the book very striking and appealing. One of the cutest and most humorous scenes was that of a T. Rex approaching the outside of a yellow clapboard house. A woman, with a surprised look on her face, is taking a whack at his nose with a broom. The table of contents was set up as if a younger person were asking questions. For example, there was a chapter entitled, "How do we know about T. Rex?" This was a well written and researched book that will appeal to the young reader. This is one of twelve in the series, "Introducing Dinosaurs." In the back of the book is an index, a glossary and additional recommended book and web site resources (through Childs World).
