Catherine Taylor was born near the Blue River in southeastern Nebraska in 1898. She moved with her family to the Red River Valley in northern Minnesota, recording life in both communities with her Kodak box camera. In Minnesota, she met and married a local farmer, George Seth Meyer, and attempted to adapt to the harsh life of the northern prairie. The impending birth of their first child and the demands of farm life created a marital crisis that had long-term consequences.
