The Best Modern Self-Help Book!
Published by Thriftbooks.com User , 19 years ago
I have read many self-help books and most aren't worth reading to begin with. However, once in a great while you find a book that states knowledge with crystal clear precision. This is one of those books. The 23 steps consist of relaxation, happiness and communication techniques that are summarized in brief chapters. The book is short, but worth spending long hours in studying and applying its message. This one is a keeper. It was originally published in the early 1970s before the Tony Robbins and Dr. Phils of the world came out with their smiling faces Xeroxed across book covers with an attitude in their eyes that seem to say "If you want to be a success, look no further than me." Hence, the age of the egotistically self-help guru was born. This is a self-help book were the "self" is the reader not the writer. The man who wrote this book wanted to help people without becoming a celebrity in the process. Unfortunately, this book appears to be out of print like so many other classics. If you can find a copy please devour its wisdom!
Success and Achievement

Robert Lumsden wrote this small book on the 23 steps to success and achievement. I first read this book as a young man in the early 1980s. I was fortunate to have done so as this set me on a strong footing to successfully complete my university studies and begin my work career with the right frame of mind. The book covers briefly 23 topics that are packed with excellent advice and wisdom. The book enabled me to eliminate negative habits like pessimism, frustration, laziness and lack of concentration at an early age. It guided me to excel in my career of aircraft engineering, enabling me to reach the top in my chosen career (as Director of Engineering) with over a thousand subordinates under me at the tender age of 35 years. The 23 topics covered embrace all the essential areas of everyday life such as how to maintain good health, how to improve one's memory, cultivating positive emotions, speaking in attractive and clear voice, being tactful, being a good subordinate, developing one's ideals, aiming to be more mature, having a happy marriage, getting more from one's reading, solving problems, enhancing one's happiness, being more imaginative and creative, being a good parent, among others. This is essential reading for those wishing to make a success of their lives and wishing to live happy and contented lives.
