This book was a required text for a grief and loss class. It is a very good book for resources and understanding complicated mourning issues. I would recommend this book for persons interested in grief and loss, and was useful in looking at new ways of developing treatment protocols.

Complex Treatment of a Complicated Topic
Published by Thriftbooks.com User , 24 years ago
A reference book of gigantic proportions, Rando's volume is a useful resource for anyone who regularly counsels with people in grief. Complicated mourning, the constellation of experiences that somehow make a loss more difficult to accommodate, is a growing issue for caregiving professionals.Like in Rando's earlier books, she reviews the literature on complicated mourning published prior to the early 1990s and delineates some of the common theories. She also includes a very helpful section on assessing the person at risk for a complicated mourning reaction, according to demographic characteristics, the cause and mode of death, and prior mental health history. The book's entire third part is devoted to specific issues such as traumatic death, death of a child, and complicated family systems. And like all of Rando's professional books, her bibliography alone is worth the purchase price. If you counsel more than ten people each year with bereavement issues, you most likely see one (or maybe several!) for whom this book would give you excellent guidance. Highly recommended.
