Trashy and the Broken Crayons

By Aaron Schmit

Broken crayons. Beautiful beginnings.

What can you make with a handful of broken crayons?

A sunny sky. A silly cat. A whole garden of Trashflowers

When a little box of broken crayons lands beneath Trashy's lid, he wonders whether they can still make beautiful pictures. Red is snapped in half. Blue has lost his wrapper. Little Yellow is barely bigger than a jelly bean.

But Cherish sees something worth keeping.

Together with their neighborhood friends, Cherish and Trashy turn forgotten colors into a bright, beautiful mural-complete with crooked petals, a cat with enormous ears, and one wonderfully silly dinosaur dream.

Written by Aaron Schmit, Trashy and the Broken Crayons is a warm, funny picture book about creativity, friendship, and second chances. It celebrates the wonderful things children can make when they share their imaginations.

An inviting read-aloud for ages 3-8, family story time, preschool, and early elementary classrooms.
