Growth as a believer in Jesus involves both training in spiritual disciplines, and transformation of thoughts, attitudes, motivations and world view. The problem for many believers is that it is possible, and even probable, to focus more on the spirituality that others see. It is easy to be consumed with shaping our visible Christianity. And, it is far too easy to mistake the ability to perform like a Christian as spiritual maturity. But true spiritual maturity occurs only when we allow God to illuminate our motives, attitudes and hidden fears - those parts of us that are hidden, often from even our own minds and hearts. Trained or Transformed leads the sincere believer past the seemingly obvious marks of spirituality to the truth of the inner person. Genuine growth and maturity into the image of Christ must begin in those places the world around us cannot observe.
