if you are going to only Dublin this is a great one to use

If you are planning a trip to Dublin this is a must have book. It outlines the city and gives excellent recommendations on where to stay and eat. The way the city is divided up in the book is the perfect way to plan your trip and can be divided into really three days. It has some outlying things but if you are going around Ireland I would use the Eyewitness book on Ireland and pass on this one.

Needs some updating but still well worth it

If you are planning a short trip to Dublin this is a must have book. It covers excellent restaurants and wonderful places to stop and shop. The essential sights are all listed by region and are explained in enough detail for one to decide if they want to visit. If you are going for a longer period of time I would recommend a bigger guide but I would still get this one to walk around with.

5 out of 5 stars Beautiful Visuals Plus all the Other Information

I have to confess up front. I love these books. I must have a dozen. I really like the Paris book, and the one for Prague, and Stockholm, and South Africa, and .... You get all the detailed material similar to other great travel books plus you get great visuals. On a cold day back here in the USA (or Canada) or elsewhere, have a glass of wine and sit in a nice chair or in the garden on a warm day and read this book. For a moment you will be back in traveling. The photos are that good. As I said, the photos and descriptions and the cutaway drawings are excellent and more than make up for any lack of small detail. But there is lots of detail here. The book includes the history of the city and many details on the art, art galleries, parks, culture, historical figures, cutaway views of historical buildings, and many other things of interest. The history is summarized at the beginning of the book with historical time lines and cross referenced to the culture and political figures. A solid effort - lots of stuff to see and absorb. It has the other things too such as maps, accommodations, transportation, and the rest. You will be pleasantly surprised with the depth and quality of this book and it makes a nice souvenir to refresh your memory when you get home.

Want a great guide that gives you the information you need to know in a easy to reference way? Want a guide that is also a great souvenir? Go for this one! The main caution is to be sure to get a current edition -- Dublin is a city that is changing fast!

My favorite travel series!

A very good guide book if you confine your trip to Dublin only. Almost all of the information is also contained in the Ireland guide, so you might want to spend a few more dollars and get the whole country. Lots of pictures with sections on what to do, where to eat and what to see. A map of the city center in the back of the book and each section of Dublin has suggested walking tours and a "must see" listing. A very informative section of practical information towards the end which gives you tips on taking the bus, how to get from the airport into the city, how to change money, etc. All in all, a very good guidebook for the city of Dublin.
