Adam Mitchell wants forever with me.
I didn't realize forever came with a deadline.
He's the Fairmont Wolves quarterback. The man women notice before he's even reached the table.
I'm an interior designer with a career I love and opinions I'm perfectly happy to share. I'm also chubby, and I've seen the women beside his teammates. It's hard not to notice the difference.
Adam calls me beautiful like it's obvious. He reaches for me in crowded rooms, and when someone decides I'm not good enough for him, he makes his feelings very clear.
The way he adores me still catches me off guard. So does how quickly I start imagining a life with him.
But after only a few months together, he wants a promise I'm not ready to make.
I love him. I can imagine marrying him. I also want us to get through a football season, navigate the difficult days, and learn how we handle wanting different things. There's a whole life beyond falling in love, and I want time to discover ours.
Adam is already sure. Waiting feels different to him.
What I see as giving us a chance to build something lasting, he hears as a reason to doubt everything we have.
To me, "not yet" means we have time.
To Adam, it might mean we're out of it.
