Timeless Wish

In present day New York, Interior Designer Laura Bennett agrees to go to Oklahoma and help her friends Galen and Jake Hillhouse redesign their ancestral home. Laura examines a photograph album of Galen's that contains a picture of Sheriff Corby Hillhouse, who lived in the late 1800s. She is instantly intrigued by the man, although she can't say why. Corby Hillhouse has had a hard life. His first wife died, and he believes he could've prevented it. Then his second wife died in childbirth. On New Year's Eve in 1898 he wishes for a woman that his "love won't kill." The next day he finds Laura passed out in the field. Laura doesn't know why, or how, she's been transported back to 1898. But she does know that she is falling in love with Corby, and with his young daughter, Sabrina. Laura takes a job as housekeeper/nanny for Corby and the two of them go through a series of misunderstandings on their way to a relationship. They also have to fight off the father of Corby's first wife, who thinks Corby is responsible for his daughter's death. Timeless Wish by Barbara Sheridan is a wonderfully touching love story that transcends time. I had hours of fun watching Laura and Corby as they worked to discover their feelings for each other. And I loved watching Laura, who had problems in her own past, help Corby get over his demons. The supporting characters in this book are also fascinating, including a former female reporter who rode over the plains in search of news. Readers who enjoy time travel will love Timeless Wish. Barbara Sheridan is destined to go far!

What a great first book! Timeless Wish is both Barbara Sheridan's first published novel, and a time travel, which makes her accomplishment doubly meaningful. The difficulties inherent in the concept of time-travel sometimes result in a poorly-knitted plot and flat, unbelievable characters. It is much harder to write a good time-travelogue than it is to write a good main-line romance. Barbara Sheridan has written an excellent time-travel romance novel, and she did it on the first try. Timeless Wish is written in a style reminiscent of Linda Lael Miller at her best, with a flavor of the Western lore of Dorothy Garlock. It is a fast-paced, imaginative plot with many twists, peopled with living, breathing, very believable characters. The heroine, 20th Century Laura Bennett, is slowly recovering from past destructive relationships. The hero, 19th Century Sheriff Corby Hillhouse, is not recovering very well from losing two wives and is unable to show his love to his little daughter, fearing to lose her too. Both these lonely people make a wish upon a star on New Year, a hundred years apart. The rest is history... An engrossing and thoroughly satisfying read. I expect we shall hear more about this author in the near future. Good job, Barbara!

Wonderful Debut - When's the sequel?

This had everything I like in a Paranormal romance. The characters were realistic, these folks weren't prettied up for the romance, they had real problems, and real responses to their problems. Sometimes they plummeted to the depths of despair which many can identify with, but together they make a new life full of promise. The heroine was fiesty, the hero very sexy, lots of humor, oh geez when Laura was making the hamburgers and Corby's women relatives all hovered to make sure she wasn't going to poison the kids, I was rolling on the floor. There was lots of humor, and suspense, evil villians, and you learned a little of native American history to boot. The fact that Laura kept bouncing between times everytime she hit her head added a extra dimesion to the plot as it totally confuses Hillhouses in both centuries. I love the way the 20th century twins, Laura's best buddies, Galen and Jake work in the future to make things work for Laura in the past. The scene where Jake uses his myticism to reach Laura in the past and save the day is totally awesome. This book is unique. I want more, perhaps a Galen story with someone who knows Laura and Jake traveling forward to meet up with Galen (oh please include Jake in this one). I also like to know the story behind Jason and Starr. ----------Leslie Tramposch -Pghromance

One of the best books I've ever read. A MUST for every woman

Barbara Sheridan's "Timeless Wish" is one of the best books I have read in a long time. It has everything: adventure, time travel, martial arts, Native Americans, a take-no-prisoners heroine, bad guys, good guys, modern times, the olden days, strong friendships, and most of all, sizzling romance! Whether you love Romance, Native American studies, or the paranormal, this book's got it all! Don't start this book at night unless you have the next day off, because you WON'T be able to put it down! In the 2 months I've owned it, I've read it twice.Ms. Sheridan is the next big writer. Smarter than Collins, sexier than Steele, Ms. Sheridan writes intelligently, while still offering plenty of humor, action, and love.

Entertaining time travel romance

In 1898 in the Indian Territory, Sheriff Corby Hillhouse steps outside to get away from the celebrating couples enjoying the New Year's Eve party. All Corby wants is a woman to love that will not not die because of him. Laura Bennett celebrates New Year's Eve 1998 to the irritating upbeat voice of Dick Clark. The interior decorator feels particularly lonely this year as she lost the two individuals who meant anything to her. She wishes for a happier life. Laura travels to goes on location to restore a bed and breakfast, where she finds a picture of Corby, which makes her feel safe and secure. She thinks she is going insane because she dreams of the Sheriff. Laura struggles with a bureau, when an accident occurs. She awakens to find Corby, searching for a missing baseball. He wants to arrest the stranger, who knows him, but his family intercedes on her behalf. Laura and Corby begin to fall in love. However, his past, her biological present, and an ugly incident involving the abduction of his daughter make this relationship seem to be a gigantic cosmic joke. Fan of time travel romance will take immense pleasure from Barbara Sheridan's entertaining tale, TIMELESS WISH. The story line is fun as late nineteenth and twentieth century values collide in 1898 and 1998. The loneliness and sadness of the lead protagonists touch the heart and soul of the reader as Ms. Sheridan shows much talent in hooking her audience's empathy. Though the wishing on the brightest star seems to be a Disneyesque-stretch, the overall plot and charactizations demonstrate that readers will embrace Ms. Sheridan as an author worth reading.Harriet Klausner
