Quietly devastating

I read this book without ever losing focus -- Craze writes with such quiet but persistent authority, detailing subtleties between mother and daughter, father and daughter, a girl and her mean teenage babysitter, brother and sister, a young girl and an egomaniacal guru -- and more. Scenes unfold beautifully, observations of nature and internal conflict flow seamlessly alongside the plot. Her beautiful writing can take a sidelong glace and make it communicate everything. The tone of the book, restrained and careful, gains in power as the chips come crashing down. This was a lovely and sad novel and I highly recommend it!

Loved it

I bought this book yesterday and finished it today---and I absolutely loved it. Terrific sentences, alluring story, fascinating settings. I could have really followed her characters forever.
