I found great difficulty in researching this novel due to the early officials of the Catholic Church regarding all references to gladiators as being somehoow evil and destroying many of the records about Thumbmeliicus, the son of Thusnelda and Armin. Eventually, I used the legends and songs songs about him and his parents which survive in the folklure stories and songs of the German people As well, the achievements of both of his parennts are well docuumented as a result of the Roman army llosing three of its crack legions of heavy infantry plus all supporting units. That was a disaster for Rome and the first Emperor, Augustus ordered thhe immediate withdrawal of all Roman units from Germania This is that story whiich happened in the Teutoburg Forest of Germania in early September 9 A.D...
