It wasn't just the wedding that Naomi wanted to avoid. She was on her way to Knockemout, Virginia, to save her long-lost brother in a town where people settled their differences the old-fashioned way: with fists and beer. This is the typical sequence.

Knox avoids complicated situations and women who require a lot of his time and attention for good reason. However, the least he can do now that he witnessed Naomi's life implode in front of his eyes is to assist her in getting out of this pickle. He can finally return to his quiet, isolated existence as soon as she stops making trouble for herself.

That is, at least, the intention until actual danger emerges.
