"The Young Drum King" is a novel reflecting the growth of children. The protagonist, Brother Axi, is a middle school student. With his father deceased early, his mother ill, his grandmother bedridden for many years, and his younger sister still very young, the heavy burden of the whole family falls on his shoulders. This forces him to become a man at a very young age. Axi is honest, kind, sunny, and enterprising. He enjoys playing the erhu, practicing calligraphy, and studying couplets, which later create favorable conditions for his campaign for "Young Drum King." Ultimately, relying on his undoubted strength and skill, he is honored with the title. Another important character in the novel is Wu Jingjing, who comes from a well-off family. He is innocent, mischievous, and unconventional, and is one of the eight children in the village competing for the title of "Young Drum King." Jealous of Axi's talent and moral character, he views Axi as a thorn in his side and an obstacle, constantly causing trouble for him in daily life. To win the crown of Young Drum King for himself, he opposes Axi at every turn and uses various means to suppress him. Later, inspired by Axi's noble character and outstanding abilities, Wu Jingjing's mindset begins to change. The former "troublemaker" transforms into a striving youth, understanding the meaning of life and its value.
