The Works of Philo Judaeus

By Philo of Alexandria

This is Volume 1 of €œThe Works of Philo Judaeus, € a comprehensive collection of writings by Philo of Alexandria, a Hellenistic Jewish philosopher who lived in Alexandria, Egypt, during the Roman era. Philo's works are significant for their attempt to synthesize Greek philosophy and Jewish scripture, offering a unique perspective on the Old Testament and its relevance to the broader philosophical world of the time.

Charles Duke Yonge, a 19th-century translator, makes Philo's complex ideas accessible to a modern audience. This volume provides valuable insights into the intellectual and religious landscape of the first century CE, shedding light on the development of both Jewish and Christian thought. Scholars and readers interested in ancient philosophy, religious history, and the intersection of cultures will find this collection to be an invaluable resource.
