The work stress of teachers in secondary education in Greece

Coping with work-related stress and its consequences consists a research topic, which has troubled scientific community for decades, according to Kyriacou & Sutcliffe (1978). Work as a teacher/educator; consider being one of the most stressful jobs, and this has already been ascertained through various studies (Griffith, Steptoe & Cropley, 1999 - Joy et al., 2015) which show increased anxiety levels among the professionals. Many of these studies try to identify the best practices adopted by teachers, in order to cope with the anxiety consequences. Thus, in this study, stress levels detected in 100 Secondary Education teachers in the Prefecture of Arta (permanent staff and deputies) are examined, as well as the ways they cope with it or at least smoothen its consequences. The examination of the work-related stress levels also includes the detection of teachers' satisfaction feeling. This takes place because there were studies (Chapman & Lauther, 1982 - McCormick, 2005) showing that a low level of satisfaction leads to higher levels of work-related stress.
