The Witch of Beaver Creek Mine is a fictional young adult adventure story that takes place in Nova Scotia in the 1940s. It is woven around the lives of simple people, their superstitious beliefs, and old-fashioned family values. Readers will encounter Old Maude, a disfigured and much maligned and misunderstood Micmac medicine woman who lives in an abandoned gold mine, as well as lumberjacks, hobos, and several village children whose adventures lead them to Maude and to an eventual understanding of her natural healing powers and goodness.
An excellent story that can be enjoyed by adults and children. I particularly liked the way the author used descriptive detail to completely put you into the world of her main character. I'm looking for books to get my 11-year-old nephew hooked on reading, and I plan to share this with him. Perhaps future editions could have the larger type size usually found in "young adult" books.
I really enjoyed this!

This book was interesting to me in a number of ways. You learn about Indian culture from a completely different perspective and the book opens with many interesting historical facts I didn't know. The story itself was exciting and well written. You will be surprised about what the story has to offer given the title. Personally, I would like to see a second book with the same main characters! Great book!
