Verbal hit and run

This is a collection of newspaper column from 1995 and 1996, written for "The Daily Telegraph" in London. His style is quite pleasing, and the sentences are just as long as they need to be and not any longer. He takes many contrarian views, often, I think, just for their being contrarian, and he often manages to make a case which will sway those of us beguiled by the charm of the prose. Don't shoot this messenger. Most of all, though, the book should be read for the verbal hit and run, such as the light but deadly barb about the man who is chiefly noted for having a beautiful and talented wife.
