Shawn Small takes the Lenten season to a whole new level through The Via Crucis. This book has taken what has become common and stale in my faith life and destroyed it, making room for a rejuvinated and new heart for my Savior. Through detailed storytelling, meditative illustrations and thoughtful insights I was able to see Jesus face to face and feel my heart beat for him as his heart beats for me.

Read the "How to Use This Book" and study each charcoal drawing prior to reading the text and your soul becomes ignited. I found this book to provide illusion and passion for the sacrifice through the eyes of those who lived the period. It was personalized after each devotional by the prayers Shawn included. This is a must SEE and read!

This is a very inspiring book both written and visual. I love the different takes on each scene as we follow Christ to his crucifixion. It takes the story I have heard many times and adds a new aspect to what Christ has done for us. The artwork is also amazing and helps to capture each chapter in a unique way.

I found this to be an enlightening and inspiring perspective on Jesus' crucifixion. The book is made up of many small chapters (40 in all); each chapter details a different aspect of what Jesus (and those around him) went through from the day of his betrayal through his resurrection. This book helped me take Jesus' sacrifice from a "Bible story" to a series of events and decisions that actually took place 2000 years ago. I've never formally followed Lent (the 40 days leading up to Easter)...never really even knew what it was. But now I understand the power and importance of these holy days. I give this book my highest recommendation to Christians everywhere.

I am reading the book devotionally for the Lenten period. I find it to be very spiritually encouraging and thoughtful. I have especially enjoyed the emphasis on the Passion of Christ and the beautifuly written descriptions as I contemplate the cost of the Cross. Anyone, but especially those from Liturgical backgrounds, will be greatly drawn in by the beautiful detailed descriptions of the feelings of the players as this drama of all world history unfolds. A great read for strong spiritual focus during these days perceding Easter.
