This insightful read has all the answers young people want concerning love, sex and true intimacy. Written so the reader can thumb through and read different sections, or read cover to cover, "The Value if the Gift" provides explanations of why people enter situations where false illusions and sexual gratification are predominant. It also explains what the difference is between love and lust, intimacy and self indulgence; and why some try to fill voids in their lives by acting out sexually. As a mother and a professional who works with families -- who has been looking for a book like this one -- I would recommend this book to anyone with a teen who is thinking about exploring the vulnerable world of dating. This book will answer the question of "why wait" and helps young people make the right choices based on knowledge and understanding. As I read the many profound passages of "The Value if the Gift," one really struck at the heart of the issue. The author was explaining what a partner might say to someone who had broken up with them: "...When you leave, you take with you something I can never have back again, to give to the person I marry. You used me." Bruce Culp, lays out why waiting is beneficial; and he does it in a way that makes sense and does not offend. This book is written with Christian overtones, but if Oprah doesn't offend you, neither will this book. Truly, a must read for both parents and young adults!
