Getting Better

This installment of the series concerning the military exploits of "Fancy Jack" Crossman is an improvement over the previous book. Not that it was bad; this one is just better. The story is more interesting and the dialog is better written. Crossman is the son of a nobleman serving as a sergeant with the light cavalry in the Crimean War. He has given up his aristocratic birthright because of disagreements with his father. He is tapped for doing secret missions because of his intelligence but all he really wants to be is a normal trooper. This installment sees him going on his secret missions but getting to be around for the famous Charge of the Light Brigade. It's not great but it does help to pass an entertaining afternoon.
