Everyone has heard that eating too much cholesterol and fat will lead to heart disease, that no matter how many diets Americans endure they are still overweight, that inappropriate food choices can lead to adult-onset diabetes, yet most people seem to have more and more difficulty meeting their bodies' nutritional needs. Clearly they are eating more, but they aren't eating smart. The Unofficial Guide to Smart Nutrition shows readers: * What the USDA Food Pyramid reveals -- and what it doesn't * Why frozen is better than canned but fresh is the best of all * What the food industry doesn't want you to know about luncheon meats * Why vitamin and mineral supplements can't rescue a poor diet * Which chemicals in food may cause illness, and how to avoid carcinogens * How to make a superior peanut butter and jelly sandwich
This book is the most complete nutrition book I have read. So many people are willing to rely on the government to provide them with accurate information about the foods they eat. This book provides the inside scoop on what you are really eating, and how it is benefitting or harming you and your health. It is easy to understand, and the information sticks with you anytime you enter a grocery store and are tempted to fill your cart with highly processed food. This book has definately changed my life and my health!

The book I always wanted Ross because no one else would-- could, this book serves as a starting point for anyone who wants to stay healthy, energetic, rightfull youthful & lithe. Offering the first "cell's eye view" of what the body needs and how to eat for those requirements without compliction and without spillover to body fat, as a former model I was grateful for Dr. Hall's unique insight. Now a results oriented energy specialist in sports, I know there's no way to trade fat for winning endurance without superb maintenance of health-- easy when you learn how to select food for a positive impact on cell machinery as this book explains.

This was an excellent and comprehensive book on nutrition. It is written and reviewed by reputable sources. It covers all important areas of nutrition such as supplements, vitamins, minerals, fat, sugar, diets, sports nutrition, and how to avoid diseases like cancer, heart disease, etc. It includes a lot of practical information like how to buy nutritious foods at the store, how to read labels, how to cook nutritiously, and how to eat-out nutritiously. I found this book very well written and very understandable. I reviewed many of the nutrition books released in the last few years, and I think this is definately one of the best, if not the best.

Ross Hall presents nutrition in a sound and sensible way. Although the previous reviewer said he couldn't find "organic" food where he lives, the Halls and I live in a very rural area and find plenty of it. I know them and seeing is believing. Both Ross and his wife, Anne, are extraordinary examples of their advice on nutrition and health. They helped my son with his mountain bike racing and their advice helped him finish and place in a grueling world cup race. Since I started feeding my family their way, our health and energy has been profoundly affected in a most positive way. I can't recommend this book more highly! It is organized in a easy-to-use format making it easy to find information on the subject you need now.Ross Hall is one of the most highly respected nutritionist in the world and far more informed than a RD. This is advice that can save your life.
