It's so excruciatingly faithful to the source material that it's almost like playing the game withou

The book is a solidly written dose of nostalgia that I always return to every couple of years. I wouldn't necessarily recommend it if you aren't a fan of the series, but I do think it would be a good "starter horror novel" if you have a tween that likes zombies and monsters but you don't quite want to let them loose on grittier stuff yet.

And another hallway with doors

I hate to be the only person to not give this book 5 stars however the book does have some issues that aren't being addressed. Let me preface by saying the first few chapters are FANTASTIC. They provide insight into the events that transpired prior to the game's beginning. You learn about Jill's past, more about the S.T.A.R.S. and perhaps the most fascinating being the insight into Albert Wesker. My issues with this book arise when the events of the game begin. Perry's description of the events aren't per se bad but she spends so much time describing the setting in such a boring way. While it was fun recalling the appearance of the mansion's vast corridors and rooms from the video game for the first few times, it quickly gets old reading similar descriptions of each hallway and room. I found myself skipping through most of these descriptions. If you are a fan of the video game and want a little more backstory on the characters I would recommend reading this book. But if you aren't truly engaged by the game's story then it might be difficult to work your way through this book.

One of the best books I've read!

Resident Evil is a wonderful book; it's scary, entertaining, and definitely a good read. When I saw it on this website, I immediately wanted to read it. So, I went to the local bookstore and purchased it. I finished it in a week and a half, and I loved it. My favorite characters were Jill Valentine, Chris Redfield, Barry Burton, and Rebecca Chambers. I hated Wesker! He was so mean! Well, let me tell you why this book is so great. I was scared reading it, getting scared every time S.D. Perry described a zombie. When Jill fought a Hunter, I was completely amazed and impressed by Mrs. Perry's writing. I think she is a great author and described this first video game great. And I am so glad that she wrote a whole series of them for everyone to read.If you're a fan of anything Resident Evil related (video game, comic book, etc.) except for the movie, then you will love this series of books. I know I did.

A great telling of the original video game

The Umbrella Conspiracy is the first in a series of adaptations of the popular Capcom survival horror video game series written by S.D. Perry. Fans of the first game will be pleased to find that this book is a near perfect re-telling of the storyline in the first Resident Evil video game as we are introduced to Chris Redfield, Jill Valentine, Barry Burton, Albert Wesker, and the rest of the first game's characters as we see them thrust into the battle for their lives against a horde of zombies, mutated dgos, hunters, and plenty more grisly creatures while trying to escape the infamous secluded mansion. Perry's storytelling adds nearly the same degree of suspense that the game featured. and her character development of the characters actually makes the reader care about what happens to them; something the game didn't do. All in all, if you've never read any of Perry's Resident Evil books but are a fan of the game series, then I strongly suggest picking this, and the following books, up.

Resident Evil: Umbrella Conspiracy

This book is excellent, probably the best one in the series. She described the video game beautifully. Also you get to know each character like Jill, Chris, Barry, Rebecca, & Wesker. You get to know the smaller characters like Richard, Kenneth, Enrico, & Forrest as well. Very much worth the money. Another great detail is they tell how the S.T.A.R.S. left the Police Station and their reactions to each monster. And all the monsters are in there. If you buy this book you will be very pleased. And each time you read it, you will learn something new. Perfect for any Resident Evil fan.

Wow.

At first I was suspicious of a novelized version of the Resident Evil video game. The game's story line was a little cheesy in the first place. The price looked like a bargain, so I decided to give it a go. It was the greatest decision I believe I've ever made. The Umbrella Conspiracy tells the tale of the orignal Resident Evil video game. In case your not a fan of the series, Raccoon City has a little, teansy, weansy problem - people go missing for days after venturing into the hills, and when they're found, it isn't a pretty site. Victims....are apparently eaten. Finally, Police Chief Irons decides to send in the cavalry - S.T.A.R.S. (Special Tactis and Rescue Squad). But failure seems to surround the entire mission... Minutes after the Bravo team is launched, a distress signal is recieved from their helicopter. Taking matters into his own hands, Albert Wesker, the Alpha team leader, takes his own assembled men into the action. As the story continues on, you slowly begin to learn the personalities/backgrounds of the team members, such as - Jill Valentine - an ex-thief, she is a master of picking locks.Chris Redfield - an excellent marksman that seems very attached to his comrades.Barry Burton - a family man, he prefers a Colt .45 in combat.I thought it was simply amazing that Perry managed to tie the crew in so well. Everything is in the game. Whether you play it before or after reading this book, it will still leave a lasting impression. BUY THIS BOOK!

A great book

I wasn't sure how well Perry could write this book, seeing how it has two different story lines for Chris and Jill. Despite this Perry has created a masterpiece. She has actually run both storylines in parrallel with each other. I am a big fan of Resident Evil and have got all the games so far and have only just ventured into the books. This is the first one I have read, I got it on a saturday and started reading it the second I got home and could not stop reading it, I finished the whole thing in the one day. This book handels the action and the plot well, it also describes each persons perspective of the adventure very well. If you've played the game and loved it, this book is a must, along with the rest of the series I will be getting very soon.
